I love using Pinterest. Pinterest is a great website and phone application in which I have found over one thousand pins. I believe that many people, like myself, have never really thought about how Pinterest is aiding in slacktivism. Pinterest is also making slacktivism increase, so how can it be aiding and increasing slacktivism.
One way that it could be aiding slacktivism is by taking people away from going out to shop and to get ideas. Most people can just go onto Pinterest to find something they want and buy it online. This could be taking away the ability to go out and find something that we love and try on before buying.
Another could be that Pinterest is taking away a person’s creativity. It could be making it easier to find ideas for something to do, instead of being creative and using their own ideas. By having pins that give people ideas it can reduce the creativity or ability for inspiration in those who use Pinterest.
Here we might find that Pinterest is actually hurting society than helping it. This could be allowing people to lay in their beds or on their couch and find ideas or clothes rather than going out to a mall. This could also lead to a much larger online market and almost reduce the physical ones. This could also lead to a lack of creativity or inspiration in people making it similar to just go online and look for an idea than to come up and create their own ideas.

How much can I learn?

Summary work can sometimes be a challenge. The writing process however is never quite simply done. There are constant drafts and changes. Many of us can write a summary and then say we are done. That is not the best of our abilities then. In classes many of our professors require drafts to help us in the process. This week I have learned more about what is needed and needs to be included in a summary. One thing that I learned is that when writing a summary, we write about what the source does. In this case I have to write about what the film does, not what I saw. Another thing I learned is to write in the present tense even if the film takes place in the past. In my writing of my summary I have learned that I could have so much information in my summary, but I do not need all of it. I just have to find the main ideas of the film and expand on those to create a summary without using any opinions or getting into the author or directors head.

Watching what??????

Many people do not like documentaries, I am one of them. I have watched about four documentaries in the last six years. I have never really liked documentaries because I did not get into them. The documentaries did not seem interesting to me. From the ones that I have seen, I would have to say that SuperSized Me, is probably the only one to actually get my attention and surprise me. I think Supersized me related to me because McDonald's was a fast and easy place to stop and get food as a kid. Seeing that it actually caused many health problems, I stopped eating there as much.

Documentaries can be a great use for an educational use. Using documentaries can help me as a writer in a few ways. For one it is a great way to understand the different ways to write about something. Another is seeing that there is a change in the styles of writing depending on the topic. For example, watching Supersized  Me, the documentary is first person but in the documentary I chose to watch for this class, it is third person. This shows that there are different ways just as in writing. So a documentary is almost like writing a story or an essay.

I chose to watch, "After Innonce" about people being released from prison that were wrongfully convicted. I found this documentary to be very interesting about what has and still is happening within our criminal justice system. Being a criminal justice major, we do not think that we could end up in prison for something we did not do. This proves just that. It can happen to anyone. Watching this documentary made me realize even more, how important writing is. These people had to write to people explaining their story and why they were innocent. If they did not have good writing skills, the person reading would not have been able to help if they could not understand the letter. This will help me as a writer because I will try to be clear and understandable for people to understand what I am trying to say. http://www.afterinnocence.net/

Showing up slacktivism

Many people participate in slacktivism without realizing that they are. Now one could ask, what is slacktivism? Well the short answer is, participating in a cause with little effort. Google would define slacktivism as, actions being performed on the internet in support of a cause but using little time and/or involvement.  For example, last week Lieutenant Charles “GI Joe” Gliniewicz was killed in the line of duty. By posting support for his family and his fellow officers, that is great and all, but it is slacktivism. By not going to the vigil or the funeral services and posting on Facebook or twitter, you are actively participating. However, many people from Fox Lake and the police departments around did participate in slacktivism. They showed up for the wake and the funeral procession. During the entire procession, that was 18 miles long, the streets were covered with people and police departments showing support. This is what should happen for other things also.   People should go out and participate instead of doing the easy way. The people who lined the roads during the 18 mile procession, who showed their support for law enforcement and sorrow for the family did a great job of not being a slackivist.
